Huel Granola vs. Queal Ready.
Ready, our nutritionally complete, vegan instant oatmeal entered the Queal webshop in December 2018. This hot & chewable small meal, mostly used for breakfast, not only is a great alternative to our shakes and bars, it’s also world’s first complete instant oatmeal as it has extra plant-based proteins and every portion contains at least 20% of the RDI of all essential vitamins and minerals.
Nevertheless, Ready was not the first product in the category of breakfast cereals, Huel’s Granola was. As we’ve received a couple of questions about how these two products relate to each other, and what the differences are, we thought of giving you a quick comparison.
If you are interested in a broader comparison of Queal and Huel, we wrote that before. You can find it here.

Huel and Queal general differences.
First of all, a little back ground info. Huel is a UK-based company and just like us, develops and sells nutritionally complete meals. In the Complete Food society, mainly on Reddit, we are called a Huel alternative and vice versa. Huel’s product line up currently consist of shakes, bars, an RTD drink and granola. They deliver worldwide, just like we do.
When it comes to comparing our breakfast cereals, namely Huel Granola and Queal Ready, this article will talk you through the differences – or similarities – when it comes to flavour, nutrition, ingredients, serving sizes, packaging, preparation and prices. Let’s start!
(We've compared Huel Granola Berry & Queal Ready Berry Good)
What flavours are there to choose from?
Both Huel Granola and Queal Ready come in two different flavours. For the former, you can choose from Original, which is - according to Huel itself - a “wholesome vanilla flavour with an oaty base” and Berry. Queal Ready is available in Tropical Today, which is a fresh coconut and pinapple flavour and Berry Good, a mix of different berries.
What about the nutritional aspects?
Macronutrient wise, Huel’s Granola contains slightly fewer carbohydrates and sugars. Queal Ready though, is richer in proteins, and although higher in overall fats, the part of which is saturated is smaller. If we take a look at the micronutrients, 100 grams of each contains at least 20% of the RDI of essential vitamins and minerals. Nevertheless, a portion of Huel’s Granola is 60 grams.

Tell me more about the difference in ingredients!
For Huel’s Granola as well as Queal Ready, oats are the biggest ingredients. Both products are 100% vegan, thus use plant-based proteins, Huel uses pea protein, Queal has a mix of pea and rice protein. As stated before, an even split between those two will make sure you have a balanced intake of all 9 essential amino acids. Pea protein is a bit lower on the recommended amounts of methionine.
Ready contains soy crispies for a bite, Huel’s Granola contains a mix of different seeds. To sweeten the product, Huel uses brown rice syrup and raw cane sugar and Ready uses sucralose, a sugar substitute.
The oils in both of the products are different as well: Huel makes use of coconut oil, in Queal a mix of linseed and sunflower oil will provide you with the essential fats.
Another difference is the use of berries. In Queal Ready, you’ll find freeze dried cranberries and strawberry powder, making up 12% of the total product. Huel’s Granola only has 0.8% of freeze-dried fruit pieces.
Ingredients Huel Granola: rolled oats, pea protein, seeds (sunflower, flax & pumpkin), chicory root fibre, brown rice syrup, raw cane sugar, coconut oil, vitamin & mineral blend, & natural flavouring.
Ingredients Queal Ready Berry Good: whole grain oat flakes, whole grain oat flour, pea protein, rice protein, dried cranberries, soy protein isolate, vegetable oil, dried strawberry powder, vitamin & mineral Mix, Rice flour, natural flavouring, natural colouring & sweetener.
Are serving sizes the same?
No, not at all. One serving of Granola, as suggested by Huel – is 60 grams. This will deliver 213 kilocalories, while one cup or portion of Ready is 400 kilocalories. Granola is something you will add to milk or yoghurt, though, this will make the total of kilocalories about the same but will also change the nutritional profile of your Huel Granola meal.
In what kind of packages fo they come?
Huel Granola comes in one kind of package, namely a cardboard box containing 7 portions. Queal Ready comes in both single serve cups as well as a bulk bag containing 10 portions. The outer box of Huel is fully recyclable, as well as the Ready single serve cup. Ready has a shelf life of at least one year, while an unopened box of Huel Granola only lasts 4 months.
How do I prepare Queal Ready or Huel Granola?
Huel is enjoyable at any time of the day with your favourite kind of milk. Here at the office, we think it tastes well with yoghurt too, though. Queal Ready needs to be prepared differently. You can use milk if you’d want, but the standard preparation instructions use water. If you want to enjoy Ready hot, then add 200ml of boiling water to 100 grams of Ready, stir, wait for a little while and enjoy or use the same amount of cold water and pop your cup or bowl in the microwave.
If you’d like, Ready can also be eaten cold. And if you feel like having a warm, solid, complete meal, you can use Ready to make a Berry Good Mini Cake or Mini Queal Carrot Cake.
And what about the price?
One box containing 7 (60 gram) portions of Huel Granola costs €5,90, which is €0,84 per meal. One bulk bag of Queal Ready, containing 10 (100 gram) portions costs €22,50 euro’s, which is €2,25 per meal. That’s quite a difference, but with Huel’s Granola you’d have to think of the additional costs of milk or yoghurt too.
Although we haven’t covered the subject of taste (because we think that’s up to you!) this should be a pretty rounded-up comparison of these two nutritionally complete breakfast cereals. The final choice will be up to you, but of course we hope you will give Ready – the protein-richer, more complete in essential amino acids and enjoyable hot as well as cold one – a chance.
